CHARACTERIZED

this collection explores how people choose furnishings based on how they view themselves. the objects we own reflect the confined and hidden parts of our subconscious, and shed a light upon the struggle we go through to put a mask on in our lives. not all furniture we have is new, though, because sometimes it is inherited or bought at estate sales. we also have to examine the motives behind acquiring furniture: to decorate, to commemorate, or even to facilitate. however some of the pieces are more contemporary, reflecting the change of emphasis in design from ornamentation to utilization. in each piece of furniture there is a certain personality. different people resonate with different pieces, recognizing characteristics in the pieces that they see are present in themselves or people they know. i wanted to emphasize how we put a lot of ourselves into our surroundings, choosing what to furnish our lives with based on our personalities and how we view ourselves and those around us.

this collection was on display during may of 2019 at the trinity art gallery in addison, texas. individual pieces from this collection are available for purchase (pricing available upon request). commissions for similar pieces are open.
