welcome to the studio
Hello! My name is Jordan McFarlane. Welcome to my website and “studio”! I have decided to call this space the studio because I love the idea of a place where I can share what’s on my mind, what I’m working on, and what’s on my radar. Recently, I’ve thought about my love for writing and for painting and what connects them; then a friend pointed out that I just really love to create. Whether that’s painting something that interests me, penning a poem about my surroundings, or cooking a meal for friends, I enjoy it all. I truly feel so much joy from creating in any way, shape, or form. All of my hobbies are linked to this love to create. It is so special to me, and I am so excited to share it!
The work found here is a small reflection of my love for creation. I have been creating in many ways my whole life, whether that’s all types of painting, embroidery, cooking, sewing, etc. I was taught by both my grandmothers about different creative techniques: my nana taught me how to watercolor, draw, and work in oil, and my grandma taught me embroidery and sewing. I love using these skills in conjunction to create unique works that are filled with history and familiarity but challenge myself as the artist and the viewers as well. I love art history and keeping up with current artists as well! Here are a few of my favorites:

So what art do I create? I mainly choose watercolor as my medium, but I also really enjoy ink. I make work that is interesting to me, first and foremost. I can’t stick with a project that I don’t care about, so most of my larger projects have been very detailed pieces that I am intrigued by.
I’m working on something new and exciting that will show in the Trinity Art Gallery Alumni Show this next month. I’m looking forward to it! If you want to stay up to date with what I’m working on, then the studio is a great place to start (check out my Instagram as well). If you're reading this right now, thank you for taking the time to step into my creative space!
